Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004) - by David Hoth

irst of all, this movie is about three children: Violet is the oldest and an inventor; Klaus, the second oldest, is the reader, and baby sister Sunny is a big biter. Their parents get killed in a terrible fire and they are sent to live with a distant relative named Count Olaf whom they don't know. There they are forced to do terrible chores and dreadful things. The orphans move on to go to different relatives who are then killed by Count Olaf because the Count wants to get the enormous fortune that the parents left behind for the children.

A Series of Unfortunate Events This movie is based on the first three books of A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket. The books, I thought, were the most interesting series of books I had ever read. I can’t wait until the rest of the books come out. I liked that they kept the part from the book when the orphans were out at Lake Lakromose and the leeches were attacking their boat. The movie follows the books pretty well except for a few parts. Number one is that Klaus didn't go up in the tower and look through the spyglass. And I don't think, in the book, that Count Olaf was almost arrested at the end of the play.

There was one part of the movie that I thought was really funny. When Sunny is holding onto a table with her mouth (remember, she is a BIG biter) and is floating one foot in the air. The movie is made better when Sunny is talking nonsense with sub-titles to tell what she is saying. She always talks about things and the sub-titles are funny.

Jim Carey plays Count Olaf. and I think he did a good job of acting. His actions were very funny because Count Olaf puts on plays for people to watch. The time when he tried to act like a dinosaur was a hilarious thing. The children who play the parts of Sunny, Violet, and Klaus did act as I thought they would after I had read the books. The child actors did a great job of performing their parts in the movie. I would like to see more movies from the books because I can’t wait to see the Baudelaire orphans go to the Austere Academy. I would give the movie 4 out of 5 stars.

As is widely known the author, Lemony Snicket, was born before you were and is likely to die before you as well. His doppelganger and representative, Daniel Handler, is a resident of the fair city of San Francisco. He is a better person and a more sensitive rep for Lemony Snicket because of it.
