Welcome to CinemaToast.
(August 2001)
Up and comers. A couple of actress that
have tickled The Toast's fancy.
 We
first saw Alyson Hannigan in the charming science fiction
movie My Stepmother Is an Alien (from 1988 with Dan Aykroyd
and Kim Basinger). She was a cute kid with a flair for comedy
and a killer smile. Later she settled in as the trusty sidekick Willow
to TV's Buffy the Vampire Slayer. As the sometimes comic
relief, her perfect comedic timing has been shown many times. Besides
her regular TV appearances, she can be seen in American Pie
(1999) and the currently running American Pie 2 (2001).
Her "band camp" routine has all of us here at The Toast
rolling in the aisles. As you can see, she's not a cute kid any more.
We
first heard Susan Egan as the voice of Megara in the
rollicking Disney animated film Hercules (1997). Her smoky
femme fatale and wise-cracking attitude was one of the best things about
the movie. The Toast sat up and noticed. Susan is not only an
actress but she's a an award-winning singer. On the stage, she's done
everything from Bye, Bye Birdie to Triumph of Love.
She won wide acclaim as Belle in the Broadway production of Beauty
and The Beast and played Sally Bowles in the 1998 stage
revival of Cabaret. Susan can currently be seen every Sunday
night on The WB. She plays a fellow Las Vegas
dancer along side Nikki (Nikki Cox) and is a cynical,
wise-cracking, tough talking dame, and is terrific. The Toast
is not much of a television watcher but we catch Susan Egan
(as Mary) in the TV show Nikki as often as we can.
